Case Presentation in
Community Mediicne
What is so different about Case Presentation in Community Medicine?
The case presentations in Community Medicine differ significantly from the case presentations in other subjects, as we not only diagnose the clinical condition, but also understand the whole context in which the disease has occurred and suggest the management on the basis of this context. The context could be demographic, social, cultural, environmental, economic factors that have led to the disease or would influence the management of the disease.
Through the history taking and examination a comprehensive picture of the case can be formed and one can visualize how the disease may have started, progressed and how it can be managed. During the case presentation, history is elicited to identify the epidemiological factors that have led to the occurrence of the disease, or likely to increase the risk of recurrence or spread of the disease to other family members. This information will aid in suggesting the appropriate management that include not only drug treatment, but also lifestyle measures, measures for prevention of spread of disease to others and measures for prevention of recurrence of the disease.
